Maple Marine - Services for Buyers

If you are buying a boat or a yacht an inspection from a Professional Yacht Surveyor, like Maple Marine helps uncover problems with your potential purchase that you may not be able to spot. Maple Marine have both the equipment and the knowledge to provide you with a professional assessment of the condition of the vessel. The purpose of all condition surveys is to have an independent expert check for any major defects or issues that could cause problems or require repair. Maple Marine follow the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association guidance for undertaking pre-purchase and condition surveys. It is recommended that the yacht is inspected both in and out of the water for a full assessment to be completed with as much detail as possible.

Motor boats and sailing yachts have different items that will be inspected.

Let us know if your insurance company needs a copy of the report, and we can supply more copies if required.

It is not generally recommended that you rely on a survey that the seller supplies you with. If significant sums are being spent, you will want the opinion of someone independent of the seller.

In addition Maple Marine can look at a boat to give you a quick indication of condition as a quick pre-survey inspection. This will highlight obvious faults and report on the general state of the vessel. It does not take away the need for a pre-purchase survey, but will be useful if you are unable to attend the vessel yourself or you want a quick second opinion before proceeding.

We can also look at just part of the vessel for you if you wish. For example you may decide that you want to limit the survey to the outside of the hull. In that case we would perform a limited scope survey which covers only the items you ask us to. These surveys however would not cover anything other than what we have been asked to inspect. If the survey is to be carried out in the water, for example, we obviously cannot comment on anything that requires access to the bottom to inspect and that we cannot see.

Maple Marine will not survey a yacht if already commissioned to survey the boat by a seller. This would represent a conflict of interest that would be contrary to the ethics of Maple Marine.

Maple Marine can assess your prospective purchase from the point of view of the MCGA Codes of practice if required.
